Share With The World

In order for your friends (and people all over the world) to try on your clothes you gotta take great photos.  It's really easy and we've even included simple photo editing tools in your ClosetMix account to help you rotate, resize and crop the photos of your clothes after you shoot them.

Here's What You Need

  • Your clothes
    • Any of your tops you wish to upload (shirts, polos, sweatshirts, tank tops, etc...)
    • Any of your bottoms you wish to upload (pants, capris, shorts, athletic pants, etc...)
  • A digital camera
  • A chair (if your short)
  • Lots of light (either a really bright room in your house or gather a few table lamps)
  • An iron
  • A solid white background
    • You can use a white sheet but we've found that the best way is to use some white poster boards

The Rules

In order to make sure everyone has a good time on ClosetMix.com you must follow these rules when taking photos:

  • Do not take pictures of clothing with a person wearing the clothing
  • Make sure that there is nothing personally identifiable in the photo
  • Do not take pictures of under garments
  • Do not take pictures of clothes on hangers
  • Do not take pictures of anything that could be offensive
  • As always follow our Community Guidelines
  • If you wouldn't wear it in front of your mom, don't add it to ClosetMix

Let's Get Started

  1. First, start by ironing all your clothes (your mom will be really happy about this)

  2. Next, setup your white background, here are a few tips:
    • Set up your white background on the floor NOT on the wall.  The problem with the wall is that you have to deal with gravity - it just makes things more difficult.
    • If you are using a white sheet, iron the sheet first.
    • Here is a good example of a white background we setup on the floor using 4 pieces of white poster board:

  3. Then you'll need to bring in as much light as you can, you can do this in many ways:
    • Setup lamps around your white background
    • Take off any lamp shades
    • Turn ON any over head lamps (turn off any over head fans, as they might cause shadows)
    • DO NOT use candles or other flame based light sources!!  DO NOT put light sources too close to the clothing - it might start a fire.

      Photo taking tips
      • It is easier to do one type of clothing at a time - such as doing all of your tops first.
      • Try to flatten out your clothing when you put them on your background - the less wrinkles the nicer the picture.
      • Try to take the photos from above, you don't want your clothes to look strange.
      • Since you are using a digital camera take a few shots of each piece of clothing to make sure that you get at least one good one (don't forget that digital film is free!)
      • After you've taken photos of 3 pieces of clothing, upload them to your ClosetMix account to make sure that everything is ok with your setup.

It really stinks to take all your photos, THEN realize that you needed more light!  Experiment with a few photos first to make sure they look good on ClosetMix - and don't forget that you can always delete clothes in your ClosetMix account and do it again.

  4. Get your chair and your digital camera, it's now time to take photos!
    • Get your first top and lay it out flat in the middle of your white background, like this:

See how the red shirt is in the middle of the white background - do that!

    • Then get on your chair (be careful) and take a photo like this:

Take a couple good shots before you move on to your next top.

    • Try not to get your floor in the shot (you can crop the photo in your account if needed)

    • You want to make sure that the shirt is straight NOT tilted like this photo:

  5. Take a few shots of your first pieces of clothing and go to your ClosetMix account and start uploading your clothes for you to share with the world!

  6. Keep experimenting if you don't get it right the first try!
